School Age Payment has opened for applications, providing families with extra money to help with costs when a child is set to start school.
Families or carers are urged to check whether they are eligible for this one-off payment of £267.65. This money can help at a key stage in a child’s life and can be used for anything from a new pair of shoes to arts and crafts materials.
The payment is available to families who get tax credits and certain benefits with children born between 1 March 2017 and 28 Feb 2018.
Parents or carers who have deferred their child’s entry to school from August 2022 to August 2023, or people who are home schooling, should apply this year. There is no cap on the number of children in a household who can get this payment.
Apply online for the grant through Social Security Scotland or contact Angela, our Welfare Rights Officer, if you are unsure whether you qualify and Angela can assist with the application too.
